I have about 30 birds in the forthcoming Skipton Auction - I still have plenty of stock for sale after that though. I will be selling more birds at the York Livestock Centre Rare Breeds Sale in the Autumn as well.
Having had a week off work, I took advantage of not only the weather but also my Rare Breeds Survival Trust membership and visited Temple Newsams Rare Breed Farm. The farm at Temple Newsam is run by Shelly Rogerson, well known in Croad Langshan circles in the poultry world and also the Rare Breeds Survival Trust. The farm is a fantastic introduction for any small holder who wants to keep the full range of rare breed livestock, my daughter was particularly impressed with the pigs and the piglets.
Some young stock for sale - 4 month old pullets and cockerels - Pullets £15 each, Cockerels £10 each.
Good Utility type, proven layers and with a bit of leg. 1st September 2009
Young Ixworth Cockerels - 5/6 months old. Ideal for a bit of new blood.
£10 each - about 10 in total. 1st September 2009
Reginald Appleyard started the development of the breed in the village of Ixworth in Suffolk which was finally completed in 1939. The idea in mind was to produce a true utility bird, a breed of chicken that could produce a good number of eggs whilst at the same time offering a quick maturing table bird (of course not on the scale of time now known to commercial broiler units!).
