Craven Rare Breeds Auction

PostDateIcon Wed, 02/09/2009 - 20:28 | PostAuthorIcon Julian

The September Craven feather auction turned out to be an interesting day.

I just had a pair of Indian game entered, a dark cockerel and a Jubilee hen, despite the Craven Auction Mart being the busiest I have ever seen, it turned out to be a buyers market.  Penned on the second row, I should have known that when a good pair of my neighbors Indian Game which were very stocky and of show quality went for £8 that things were going to be bad!  With an auctioneer who refused to use the mike and only going up in bids of £1 (and that from a trained cattle auctioneer), my pair achieved the bargain price of £16.  I just feel for the people who had birds penned after mine!  Next year there will be a shortage of birds as people can't afford to rear them for that - a product of the recession or Craven Auction Mart?  I am not sure but no more birds of mine are being sold there!
